Tetrahydrofuran, abbreviated THF, is a heterocyclic organic compound. Belongs to the ether class, is the aromatic compound furan complete hydrogenation product. Tetrahydrofuran is one of the strongest polar ethers. It is used as a medium polar solvent in chemical reactions and extraction. It is a colorless volatile liquid at room temperature and has a smell similar to ether. Soluble in water, ethanol, ethyl ether, acetone, benzene and other most organic solvents, known as "universal solvent". Tetrahydrofuran is an excellent solvent commonly used, especially suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride and butadianiline. It is widely used as a solvent for surface coatings, anticorrosive coatings, printing inks, magnetic tape and film coatings
